What is the Advanced Placement Program?
The Advanced Placement Program was established by the College Board and is recognized nationally for its rigor in the core subject areas, thus preparing students for the rigors of college. Students who participate in challenging courses beyond the minimum requirement for a high school diploma are more prepared for life-long learning and a competitive career. ● Be prepared for a great deal of reading and more time spent studying the material
● Consider the total time commitment of multiple AP classes when scheduling classes
● Attend common study to ask questions of the teacher or receive peer-to-peer tutoring

to meet with the teacher before the next class
● Take great notes in class and make study guides before exams

We understand that.....
● AP level courses require an increased level of time commitment as compared to the honors and college prep levels.
● Students experiencing difficulty in AP level courses must seek additional assistance from the teacher.
● Students will not be permitted to drop an AP level course prior to September 29th.
● Dropping from a core academic AP level class to an honors or college prep level class will be permitted based on space availability after October 14th & the completion of the High School Drop/Add form.
● Students dropping an elective AP class after October 14th will be placed in a study hall.
● Courses dropped after the ninth week of that course will become part of the student’s permanent record as a withdrawn passing (WP) or as a withdrawn failing (WF) depending on the student’s overall average. A (WF) will lower a student’s grade point average in determining class rank. Policy #7-09-006 – Procedure for Computing Class Rank (#4) “There will be no record made on the permanent record from courses dropped prior to the end of the first nine weeks report card. Those dropped after the first nine weeks report will be recorded as “WP” or “WF” on the permanent record.”
